Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Dieziani Alison-Madueke can now heave a sight of relief as a federal high court in Abuja has set aside the summons of the House of Representatives on her over her alleged chartered jet with the use of public funds, Daily Trust reports.
Madueke who recently emerged as the President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) had been having a running battle with the lower house over the allegation.
Justice Ahmed Mohammed today voided the summons in a judgment in the suit filed by Madueke, to challenge the validity of the House’s invitation.
The House had accused the of spending minster allegedly spent about N10bn of public funds on charter and maintenance of an 850 Challenger jet for unofficial purposes.
It will be recalled that Senators from Nigeria’s main opposition party, All Progressive Congress (APC) early this year called for the sack of the Bayelsa-born minister over issues rendering on financial recklessness.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his recently released autobiography listed Madueke as one of the women running the affairs of Nigeria.
