Russian Tennis Federation President Banned for Calling Serena & Venus “Williams Brothers”

VENISThe President of the Russian Tennis Federation, Shamil Tarpischev has been fined and suspended nby the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for calling the tennis stars, Venus and Serena “the Williams Brothers.”
The offensive comment was made a few weeks ago after Tarpischev appeared on a Russian late-night talk show, he always went on to late describe the famous sisters as “frightening to look at”.
Tarpischev responded to the uproar, by saying that his comments were only a joke and that “ I understand now that my remarks were wrong and could be construed as discriminatory by the public,”
WTA have suspended Tarpischev for one year and he will be issued with a fine of $25,000. In addition to this, he faces losing his position as Kremlin Cup Chairman, which he has held for almost 20 years.
Serena  Williams recently spoke out on the issue and said: “I think the WTA did a really great job of taking initiative and immediately taking action to his comments. I thought his comments were very insensitive.”
